In a society full of choices, especially when it comes to communities of faith, we know you have lots of options. Below you’ll find a few reasons for why we think Acton UMC could be the right faith community for you. Whether you’re new to faith, new to the area, looking for a new church home, returning to church after years away or just curious about God, faith, and the church, we hope you’ll come and experience what we have to offer.
Our primary motivation is love. As people of God, we believe the power of love is the only force in the universe that can transform hearts and lives. We base our understandings of what love means on the words and actions of Jesus Christ. Rooted in the Holy Spirit, our community welcomes people of all stripes into genuine care in the hopes a deeper relationship with God and each other will develop.
Relationships take work. As people devoted to living with love in all aspects of our life, we spend significant time and resources on developing a deeper relationship with God and one another. To forward this intention, we offer numerous opportunities to grow in faith through Bible study, spiritual fellowship, worship, sacraments, and prayer. What John Wesley (Methodism’s founder) called means of grace. The more we engage God’s grace; the more we grow.
Actions speak louder than words. At Acton, we believe that service is the chief way our commitment to love is shown. This service is not limited to those in our congregation, however. When possible we serve those in our community through our physical presence and financial assistance. At the center of all our service are hearts full of love. For, “we cannot all do great acts, but we can do small acts done with great love” (Mother Theresa). So, to serve is to love, and to love is to serve.
Acton is about 125 years in the making, and we are seeking the new things that God is doing in our lives, our community, and our world. As the scriptures say, “Behold I am doing a new thing. Do you not perceive it?” (Isa. 43:19) Come and join us in seeking and doing a new thing!
