Music is an integral part of life at Acton. Choral and instrumental music as well as congregational singing enhance our weekly worship services. Musical selections reflect the rich heritage of Christian hymnody. While we do not exclude more recent works, neither do we ignore the centuries of composers and writers who came before us and proclaimed their faith in song.
The Chancel Choir leads in weekly worship services and presents a special service of music during Advent and Christmas. The choir is open to all interested persons and rehearses following the 11:00 a.m. Worship Service. Reading music is optional, but a good sense of humor is required. Members of the choir enjoy the laughter and fellowship of rehearsals almost as much as the music.
Chancel Choir Scholarship Program
The Acton UMC Chancel Choir Scholarship Program awards two $1,500 scholarships ($750 per semester) to college students who agree to participate in the Chancel Choir for one academic year. Any student enrolled in at least seven semester hours at a local community college, college, or university is eligible to apply. Participants are selected based on application, an interview, and an audition. Recipients enjoy the benefits of a loving church family and are welcomed and nurtured by an extraordinarily caring group of choir members.
